The FRETILIN Don't Look for Wet Rice in AMP's Kitchen

Deputy chairman of the CNRT faction Patrocino dos Reis Fernandes.

Oekusipost.com Dili - Conflicts between political parties in the country continue to heat up even though the second national emergency period has not ended.

This political conflict is none other than not just wanting to seek power to lead the country to share positions with fellow colleagues and only a small amount is given to the people who are the owners of the power itself. It is the people who give power to political parties through elections held every five years.

Earlier, the Chair of the CNRT party, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, said he no longer wanted to hold important positions in the government, especially the Prime Minister.

"I'm not looking for the position of Prime Minister. In 2015 I submitted the position to someone else because I wanted to do a bigger job than the prime minister's job. We have resolved the Timor Sea border issue. Recently I also did not enter into the government structure. We must maintain the constitution so as not to cause problems for the new generation, "Xanana stated this through a press conference at the CNRT party office in Bairo Grillos, Dili on Thursday 30 April 2020.

On the other hand, the deputy chairman of the CNRT faction Patrocino dos Reis Fernandes considered the current FRETILIN party's political movement to be like going "looking for" wet rice in the kitchen of the Majority Alliance for Change to Progress (Aliansa Mudansa ba Progresu) to get involved in the actual government structure.

"RETILIN wants to lead, it is better to form a new coalition, currently FRETILIN has no way to get involved in the AMP government," Patrocino told reporters at the National Parliament, Dili Friday, May 8, 2020.

"It's like someone jumping from the back fence and into someone else's kitchen to find rice wet," he stressed.

Political facts both from the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo and Secretary General of the FRETILIN party, Mari Bin Amude Alkatiri always convey the same statement that continues to support Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to lead his government until 2023.

Thus, after the State budget for 2020 did not pass in the National Parliament on January 17, 2020, the Prime Minister also immediately submitted his resignation request and after more than 60 days there was no specific decision from the President of the Republic and finally the Prime Minister also withdrew his resignation request.

Another fact is that on Saturday, 21 March 2020, at 3:00 pm East Timor-WTL Time, the Popular Liberation Party (Partidu Libertasaun Popular) signed an agreement with the FRETILIN party to lead together.

And in fact, there has been a list of new cabinet members submitted to the Head of State involving 5 members from the FRETILIN Party and one person from the Democratic-PD Party. And 7 government members from the CNRT Party who have not been installed since June 2018 until now have not been given the opportunity to get involved in the actual government structure.

List of new governments that have been submitted to the Heads of State including; Minister of Veterans National Liberation Meta Malik (PD) and others from the FRETILIN party include Minister of Health-MS Odete Maria Freitas, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Industry Inácia Texeira, Minteri Public Administration (MAE) Faustino Cardoso, Minteri Tourism and Industry Tourism (MTKI) Manuel Vong and the Minister of Finance (MF) are Fernando Hanjam.
