JAKARTA (TOP) – The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, once again thanked Cambodia, especially Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister of Cambodia, for his continued support of the country's integration into Regional and global, and until Timor-Leste became an official observer country in ASEAN.
The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste thanked the Prime Minister of Cambodia on September 6, 2023 during a bilateral meeting with Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia on the occasion of their participation in the ASEAN Summit. And ASEAN Plus in Jakarta, Indonesia.
According to the results of the meeting, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste expressed his deep congratulations to Samdech Thipadei, who was elected as the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the 7th legislature of the National Assembly. He also sent a message of greetings to Samdech Techo, President of the Supreme Council of the King, who is always considered a respected brother. At the same time, Prime Minister "also expressed his deep gratitude to Cambodia, especially to Samdech Techo, who always provides support and encouragement to Timor-Leste in regional and global integration. Helping Timor-Leste to become an official observer country in ASEAN as Cambodia chairs ASEAN in 2022, as well as supporting and sharing Cambodia's experience in joining ASEAN in 1999, are all gestures. "Respectable and an important path for Timor-Leste to learn and prepare to become a member of ASEAN in the near future."
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Manet also expressed his deep gratitude for the congratulations and appreciation to Cambodia and Samdech Techo. He added that helping Timor-Leste is also a source of pride for Cambodia, as Cambodia has gone through 1,000 generations of tragedy and has a clear understanding of the current situation and situation in Timor-Leste. In this regard, under the leadership of the President, Cambodia will continue to support and assist Timor-Leste, especially for the process of preparing for ASEAN membership in the future.
The two leaders also discussed potential areas for enhancing cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade, education, agriculture and tourism. At the same time, the two leaders hope that these good cooperation will be in the best interests of the two nations.

After the ninth government was sworn in on May 21, Cambodia immediately invited Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Dato Sri Francisco Kalbuadi Lay to pay a working visit to Phnom Penh during three days, 28 to 30 August 2023. During the working visit, he had meetings with the former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Sen, and the new Prime Minister, Hun Manet, the Minister of Commerce, Cham Nimul and the Minister of Tourism, Sok Soken.
