PM Taur Withdraws Dismissal Letter

Oekusipost.com Dili - Prime Minister (PM) of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak "does not want" to be dismissed from his position because he himself has withdrawn the dismissal request submitted to the President of the Republic at the end of February 2020. 

According to the Timor-Leste’s Constitution in article 112 in the number 2 that, the President of the Republic can only dismiss the Prime Minister in the cases set out in the previous paragraph and when deemed necessary to ensure the functioning of democratic institutions normally, after hearing the State Council. 

After the state budget for 2020 did not go unnoticed in the National Parliament on January 17, 2020, and at the end of February 2020, PM Taur submitted a letter of request for termination from his position to President Lu Olo. After a lapse of 60 days also PR Lu Olo did not make a decision about this request and finally the PM himself withdrew his request on the grounds that the current situation desperately needed leadership to deliver great performance. 

"Today's meeting the president asked us to meet, I came up with two things. First I withdraw the letter of request for dismissal from the President of the Republic because the current situation desperately needs leadership to give a great performance, "PM Taur stated this to reporters at the presidential palace in Ai-Tarak Laran, Dili Wednesday 6 April 2929. 

And the second thing is, he informed the government that preparations have been made to minimize the effects of the coronavirus in the country. 

He added, the president also listened attentively to this matter, and continued to support prime minister Taur to fight COVID-19 in Timor-Leste. 

"He asked us to work even harder to reduce the spread of the corona virus in our country," he explained. 

Earlier, on Tuesday March 24, 2020, the chairman of the coalition party called the Parliamentary Majority Alliance Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão asked the president of the republic to immediately dismiss Taur Matan Ruak from his position as prime minister because the time for decision making had been more than 60 days and also he no longer has the authority to run the current governmental.
