The government measures during the State of emergency

Oekusipost.com Dili – Timor-Leste has announced a State of Emergency to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State of Emergency includes the following measures:

The entry of foreigners is prohibited unless authorised by the Prime Minister. This prohibition does not apply to foreigners who are already in Timor-Leste, who were born in Timor-Leste or who are legal representatives of Timorese minors.

Foreigners responsible for transporting or releasing goods do not need an authorisation but may only remain in the international zone of seaports or airports or border posts for the time strictly necessary for the completion of the delivery or release procedures for goods.

Everyone entering Timor-Leste is subject to mandatory isolation for a minimum of fourteen days.

Those who are not in mandatory isolation, don’t have a job or have been exempted from working at their normal location must voluntarily isolate by remaining in their residence.

When a person leaves their residence, they must go alone and maintain a distance of 1 metre from others, avoiding gatherings of people.

Everyone must wash or sanitise their hands before entering commercial establishments and the premises of service providers, wear a mask that protects their mouth and nose, and maintain a distance of 1 metre from others. This applies to stores, markets and other venues.

Where temperature screening is in place, individuals will be prevented from entering a premise if they register a temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius or above. The establishment is required to report any such individuals to health authorities.

Collective passenger transport services (for example, microlets, buses and ferries) are suspended.

Meetings or demonstrations of more than five people are forbidden. In addition, social, cultural, sporting and religious activities that involve a gathering of people are forbidden.

Licences and authorisations – including visas granted to foreigners in Timor-Leste – will remain valid for as long as these State of Emergency measures remain in force, regardless of the stated expiry date.
