COVID-19: The Number of Suspected Cases Are Increasing

Oekusipost.com Dili - The COVID-19 Coordinator for Prevention and Mitigation, Sergio Lobo stated, the suspected number of novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) cases are increasing in Timor-Leste from 64 to 116, but the number that has left quarantine is bigger than those which is still in quarantine.

The former Minister of Health added that cumulative data from March 6 to Sunday 12 April 2020 at 12 noon, there were 116 suspects and compared to suspects on Saturday 11 Abril 2020 there were 64 people.

“But today there are 52 more," Sergio Lobo said in a press conference at the Dili Convention Center, Sunday 12 April 2020.

While data on Saturday also showed there were 883 people still in quarantine, but now it has declined to 764, and 1140 have left quarantine. This shows that 119 people have left quarantine, they have returned to their home. This data also shows that the number of people entering through the land border and the airport has decreased.

"So now the quarantine is smaller than what has been released," he explained.

He explained that this number had fallen because the government had taken the decision to close the land border, and this decision gave all government institutions the opportunity to concentrate better on quarantine and efforts to identify places that could potentially emerge COVID-19.

There are 116 suspects who have conducted laboratory tests, and according to Sergio that there are two positive cases. One while undergoing intensive treatment in the isolation room at the Vera Cruz health center, his condition was still stable. The other one has been tested twice in a row and the results show negative, he has returned home. However, he continued to run auto-quarantine for another 14 days under the supervision of the medical team.

"There are 52 negatives, and 62 are waiting for laboratory test results," he explained.

He added a few days ago there were 4 people who entered through the clandestine land border and now there are two more people who entered clandestine as well, but they have been secured by the authorities and have been put into quarantine.
