DILI (TOP) – The Timor-Leste government has now worked hard to save its people from the Covid-19 pandemic by preparing coffins before vaccines.
The number of positive cases now registered in Timor-Leste has reached 82, according to the Integrated Crisis Management Center-Room on Saturday March 13, 2021.
But since the beginning of 2020 until now there has not been a single patient who died from Covid-19, according to the government.
The Council of Ministers approved the Vaccination Plan Against Covid-19 On March 8th.
According to the roadmap presented, it is expected that the first 33,600 doses will arrive in Timor-Leste in the fourth week of March 2021 and that the launch of the first vaccination phase will start in the second week of April.
It is expected that all people over the age of 18 will be vaccinated by the end of 2021. The vaccination of those under the age of 18 is expected to be carried out in 2022, but its planning is still dependent on the technical recommendation of the World Health Organization.
The director general of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Inclusion Rui Exposto said his ministry had prepared around 300 coffins to guard against the possibility of death due to Covid-19.
"We hope that there will be no deaths due to Covid-19 but if this happens the government will be ready to buried," he explained.
In response to this, the opposition CNRT party accused the government of being unable to resolve the Covid-19 case, which over the past few days has increased. So actually, the government should buy vaccines first, not coffins.
