Timor-Leste invites and looks forward to the visit of the former Prime Minister of Cambodia

PHNOM PENH (TOP) – The Ninth Constitutional Government has officially invited the former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Sen to pay a visit to Timor-Leste.

The invitation from the Timor-Leste government was conveyed by the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Dato Sri Francisco Kalbuadi Lay on 29 August 2023 in Phnom Penh.

Dato Sri Francisco Kalbuadi Lay said his nation is looking forward to welcoming the visit of Hun Sen, Former Prime Minister of Cambodia and President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, at his appropriate time.

He made the affirmation while paying a courtesy call on Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on 29 August 2023. He also told Hun Sen of his visit the purpose of which is to congratulate Cambodia on the successful organisation of the National Election on July 23 and on the formation of a new Royal Government.

He expressed his gratitude to Cambodia for its full support for Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership.

For his part, Hun Sen recalled his previous visit to Timor-Leste, saying that he is the only ASEAN leader to visit this island state to boost the Timorese membership in ASEAN.

He also briefed his guest on the new developments in Cambodia, including the smooth power transfer to ensure peace and sustainable development of the country.
